The Nigeria Police Force has successfully thwarted an armed bandit attack in Katsina State, neutralizing seven bandits and recovering 109 rustled livestock.
The operation, which took place on January 18, was part of the Force’s ongoing efforts to enhance national security through intelligence-driven policing.
A distress call was received by the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters in Katsina, alerting authorities to an impending attack on Ruwan Doruwa Village, Dutsinma Local Government Area.
In response, police operatives, working in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly mobilized to the scene.
Upon arrival, the operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, which led to the neutralization of seven bandits.
The remaining members of the gang fled, abandoning 109 livestock believed to be stolen. The police were able to recover the animals, preventing further criminal activity in the region.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, praised the police’s intelligence-driven approach as essential in combating banditry and other violent crimes.
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to confronting armed banditry head-on,” Adejobi said. “The police operatives acted quickly on the distress call, and their courage led to the successful neutralization of the bandits. By recovering the livestock, we not only protected the citizens but also disrupted criminal operations in the area.”
The recovered livestock, which were believed to have been rustled from local farmers, were returned to their rightful owners.
This operation is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader efforts to combat criminal activities such as banditry, human trafficking, and armed robbery.
“We remain committed to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians and will continue to take a firm stance against criminal activities,” Adejobi added.
