Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has secured the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards with her song Love Me JeJe.
The award ceremony, held on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, saw Tems triumph over strong contenders, including Asake and Wizkid’s “MMS,” Burna Boy’s “Higher,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” featuring Davido and Lojay, and Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow.”
This victory marks Tems’ second Grammy win, further cementing her status as a global music powerhouse. In 2024, South African artist Tyla became the first recipient of the category with her hit song Water.
Tems, who was nominated in three categories this year, also earned nods for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning). Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for the recognition.
“Winning this award means so much to me. African music continues to make waves globally, and I’m honored to be part of this movement,” she said in her acceptance speech.
