As the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations approach, security agencies have intensified their presence in Katsina and Kebbi states, while the Kano State Police Command has imposed a total ban on the traditional Sallah Durbar, citing security concerns.
In Katsina, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 2,160 personnel to ensure public safety before, during, and after the celebrations.
The state command’s Public Relations Officer, Buhari Hamisu, confirmed this in a statement on Friday, urging residents to stay vigilant and report any unusual activities.
He also advised citizens to uphold the law and extended warm wishes for a peaceful Sallah.
Meanwhile, in Kano, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori, speaking at the Bompai Police Headquarters, defended the controversial decision to prohibit the annual Durbar.
He stated that after thorough assessments with security agencies and government officials, the event was deemed a potential risk to public order.
“In pursuit of a safe and secure celebration, and to sustain the relative peace in the state, the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has assessed the situation, particularly the rising tensions and uncertainties surrounding Durbar activities. Given the potential for these activities to escalate into disorder, we have, after consultations with the Kano State Government and other critical stakeholders, placed a ban on all Durbar activities throughout the state for the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations,” Bakori declared.
The commissioner further urged those attending Eid prayers to adhere to security protocols for a smooth observance of the festivities.
Similarly, security measures have been heightened in Kebbi State, where Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani has instructed senior officers, including Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, to enhance patrols and maintain a strong security presence.
A statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, conveyed the CP’s Eid greetings to the Muslim community and encouraged them to use the occasion for prayer and reflection on national peace and development.
The CP further appealed to religious leaders, worshippers, and residents to support security efforts, assuring them that adequate measures had been taken to guarantee a peaceful and incident-free celebration.
