The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended more than 580 suspects for various criminal activities, rescued at least 30 kidnapped victims, and recovered stolen property and illegal firearms across the state.
According to The PUNCH, the commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Kaduna on Tuesday.
He stated that these achievements were recorded between December 31, 2024, and January 2025, emphasizing the force’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents.
Rabiu highlighted the role of collaboration with security agencies and community members in tackling crime.
“We have been working closely with the community and other security agencies to ensure that Kaduna State is safe and secure for all residents,” he said.
Among the notable arrests were two suspected informants, Inusa Ibrahim and Hamisu Musa, accused of providing bandits with information on potential kidnapping targets. The police also apprehended two notorious motorcycle thieves, Ibrahim Abubakar and Surakatu Usman, who allegedly used a sledgehammer to attack victims before stealing their motorcycles.
Additionally, the command recovered 16 motorcycles and three tricycles from suspects, leading to the arrest of Yahya Muhammad, identified as the receiver of the stolen items.
Rabiu revealed that 23 kidnapped victims were freed from captivity in the Kajuru Local Government Area.
“From December 31, 2024, to date, the Kaduna State Police Command has recorded significant successes in our fight against crime. Through intelligence-driven operations, synergies with sister security agencies, and collaboration with communities, we have achieved tremendous results.”
He outlined the arrests made, 20 suspected kidnappers, 320 suspected phone snatchers, 32 suspected armed robbers, 5 car thieves, 13 motorcycle snatchers, 10 individuals involved in rape cases, 23 receivers of stolen goods
The police also recovered a range of stolen items and illegal firearms, including, 34 stolen motorcycles, 10 stolen motor vehicles, 1 submachine gun, 4 AK-47 rifles, 2 pistols, 28 rounds of live ammunition with 5 magazines, 52 rustled cows, 4 sledgehammers, 20 bags of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
On February 10, 2025, officers from the Gadar Gayan Outpost acted on credible intelligence to arrest Ibrahim and Musa, both 18, who were allegedly making phone calls to suspected bandits, providing details of potential kidnap victims in their village.
Rabiu reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to eradicating crime.
“I want to assure the good people of Kaduna State that the state is safer, and we are working tirelessly to sustain and improve the security situation across every nook and cranny of the state,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his confidence in him and acknowledged Governor Uba Sani’s support for the command.
Urging residents to remain law-abiding and assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, Rabiu emphasized:
“Security is a collective responsibility, and together, we can build a safer and more peaceful Kaduna State.”
