The Lagos State Police has arraigns a 52-year-old man identified as Marcus Olasege, for assaulting and attempting to kill one Mohammed Alli in Lagos State.
According to The PUNCH, the accused was presented before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of assault and a violation of public tranquilly, as outlined in two separate counts.
According to the police prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, it was said in court that there was a disagreement between Alli and the defendant on an unreported matter in the past.
As a result of this, Olasege proceeded to the building site belonging to Alli and engaged in the act of throwing stones at his workers in response to his inability to locate Alli.
Upon Alli’s arrival at the location, it was reported that the accused had allegedly inflicted wounds upon him using a knife, targeting the left side of his facial region and abdominal area.
As per Magaji’s account, the occurrence transpired on August 12, 2023, approximately at midday, namely at Bishop Oluwole Street in the state of Lagos.
He also stated that the transgression violates and is subject to penalties outlined in Sections 168(d) and 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria in the year 2015.
The charges read in part, “That you, Marcus Olasege, on August 12, 2023, around 12noon, at a site in Bishop Oluwole Street, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault one Mohammed Alli by using knife to stab him on the left side of his face and stomach which caused blood to be gushing out and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
The defendant entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges brought against him.
The presiding magistrate approved the defendant’s request for bail in the amount of N200,000, subject to the provision of two sureties who are also required to provide the same amount. Furthermore, the magistrate scheduled the next hearing for September 22, 2023, for the purpose of mentioning the case.
The accused individual was placed in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service until such time as they are able to fulfil the requirements for their release on bail.
