The Kwara State Government has made it mandatory for all residents to register with the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency to enhance security and support economic planning.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Abdullahi Baba, the Press Secretary to KWSRRA, announced that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had approved the initiative. Under this directive, registered residents will receive a State Security Identification Number and an identification card.
“We are implementing this directive across 96 registration centres in the state,” said Tajudeen Jimoh, the agency’s Acting General Manager. “As the process continues, we plan to increase the number of centres to accommodate more residents.”
The agency is working closely with key government ministries, including Education and Human Capital Development, Tertiary Education, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes, to encourage participation.
Jimoh emphasized that the SSID number would be essential for accessing government services, including education-related processes.
“Parents, guardians, and students must provide their SSID numbers when applying for exams, scholarships, grants, or social safety benefits,” he explained. “Students admitted to state-owned tertiary institutions will also need to register as residents.”
He further clarified that the identification number would be required for educational registrations.
“For instance, a child enrolling for common entrance, junior secondary, or senior secondary exams must provide their SSID number along with that of their parent or guardian,” he added.
The state government has already registered all civil servants and pensioners in its database, marking significant progress in building a comprehensive residents’ register. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen security measures and facilitate effective economic planning.
“The government urges all residents to support this initiative,” Baba said. “It is crucial for ensuring data-driven governance and the overall well-being of the people.”
