The Gwaram Local Government Council in Jigawa State has taken a significant step to ensure a joyous Sallah celebration for orphans in the area.
As part of this initiative, the council has procured 100 bundles of fabric for distribution to 600 male orphans.
The council chairman and Jigawa State Chairman of the Association of Chairmen of Local Government of Nigeria, Professor Abdurrahman Lawan, made this known on Sunday following a meeting with traditional rulers.
He explained that the selection process ensured that 100 orphans from each district would receive fabric for new clothes.
To further ease the burden on the beneficiaries, the council has allocated N600,000 for tailoring costs, ensuring that the orphans have properly sewn outfits for the festivities.
Lawan reaffirmed the council’s dedication to orphan welfare, stating that the initiative reflects their commitment to making Sallah memorable for all children in the community.
Beyond clothing for male orphans, the council has also extended support to orphaned girls in the region by providing them with garments.
In addition, it has distributed essential food supplies, including 36 bags of pasta, four sacks of millet, and four sacks of maize, to 76 village heads across the local government.
Highlighting the significance of this gesture, the District Head of Fagam (Katikan Dutse), Auwal Adamu, commended the council’s leadership for prioritizing the well-being of vulnerable groups.
“This donation aims to alleviate food insecurity and promote economic empowerment within the community,” Katikan Dutse noted.
The council’s efforts underline its ongoing commitment to fostering social welfare and ensuring that even the most vulnerable residents can partake in the Sallah celebrations with dignity and joy.
