Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has ended a decade-long restriction on staff promotions at Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia Polytechnic), a policy imposed by the previous administration.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Umuahia.
According to Njoku, Governor Otti has also sanctioned the release of all outstanding promotions for the institution’s staff.
Additionally, he has put an end to the controversial “National Promotions” practice previously in place at the polytechnic.
He noted that the institution’s staff expressed gratitude to the governor for fulfilling his pledge to clear the 33 months’ salary arrears left unpaid by the former administration.
“They also thanked him for implementing regular payment of their salaries as and when due and putting infrastructures and measures in place to upgrade the standard of the institution,” Njoku stated.
