Kevin Schade’s early goal proved decisive as Brentford edged past West Ham United with a 1-0 victory in the Premier League on Saturday.
Despite an improved second-half display, the hosts failed to break through Brentford’s defense and find an equalizer.
The visitors struck within the opening four minutes when Schade’s shot was clawed back from behind the line by West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, giving Brentford the lead.
However, despite dominating the game, they were unable to extend their advantage.
In response, West Ham boss Graham Potter made three halftime substitutions, including the introduction of on-loan striker Evan Ferguson.
The young forward quickly set up Mohammed Kudus, but the Ghanaian midfielder wasted a golden opportunity by slicing his effort over the bar from close range.
West Ham’s resurgence after the break gradually faded, allowing Brentford to see out the game with relative comfort.
The win keeps them in 11th place with 34 points from 25 matches, while West Ham remain in 16th with 27 points.
