A dismissed military officer turned impostor, Kingsley Wanogho, has been apprehended by the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting a young man in Ikeja and abandoning him on the Third Mainland Bridge after robbing him of his iPhone 13.
The 42-year-old suspect, who is also an ex-convict, was arrested near Computer Village in Ikeja on Saturday after being recognized by one of his previous victims.
In a statement shared on Wednesday via X.com, the RRS detailed how Wanogho lured his victim, identified as Solomon, into the ordeal on December 30, 2024.
According to the statement, “The suspect accused his victim of bumping into him and claimed he lost a gold ring in the process. He demanded that the victim produce the ring, threatening to take him to the army barracks in Oshodi if he failed to comply.”
To support his claim, Wanogho allegedly presented a fake military ID card and summoned an accomplice on a motorcycle.
The duo then pretended to escort Solomon to the Army Cantonment but instead drove him to the Third Mainland Bridge, where they stole his iPhone 13 and some money before abandoning him.
The police revealed that the stolen phone was later sold for N150,000 at Computer Village. During his arrest, a Nigerian Army fez cap and a counterfeit military ID card were recovered from Wanogho.
The statement noted, “The suspect is currently in the custody of the Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad for further investigation.”
