At least 20 American mercenaries fighting for Ukraine have been reported missing in combat, as the number of foreign fighters killed on the battlefield has surged over the past six months.
CNN, in an investigative report published on Thursday, revealed that foreigners have been dying in increasing numbers while attempting to bolster Ukraine’s defense.
According to the report, the remains of at least five American fighters killed during this period could not be recovered from the battlefield.
However, the bodies of two U.S. citizens were recently transferred to Ukraine last Friday.
The Russian Defence Ministry has consistently accused Kyiv of recruiting foreign mercenaries to strengthen its ranks.
Some foreign fighters have shared in interviews that the Ukrainian military lacks proper coordination.
They also noted that the intensity of combat is far greater than what they encountered in Afghanistan and the Middle East, making survival on the battlefield exceedingly difficult.
