The Kano State Executive Council has approved N8.2 billion for the execution of 15 major projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure, education, and essential services across the state.
Governor Abba Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday following the State Executive Council meeting.
According to the statement, N2.7 billion has been allocated for the construction of classroom blocks in all 44 local government areas, reinforcing the government’s commitment to education development.
Another N2.3 billion will cover the cost review of major road dualisation projects, including the Government House Roundabout, Race Course Road, and Daula Hotel Roundabout.
The project scope also extends to Nasarawa Hospital Road, Dawaki Road, and Lugard Road.
The council has also approved N1.8 billion for the remodelling of Africa House Conference Hall and consultancy services at the Government House.
To support energy needs, N1.2 billion has been earmarked for diesel and petrol supply, covering 479,000 litres of diesel from September to December 2024, and 16,000 litres of PMS for KSWB Challawa in September. Additionally, N790.7 million has been set aside to settle KEDCO liabilities.
In the education sector, N378.7 million has been allocated for foodstuff supply to boarding schools for the first and second weeks of the current second term.
Similarly, N303.6 million has been designated for the printing of security documents by the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc for the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.
The council also approved N117.3 million for the establishment of a Model Village in Doga Village, Gabasawa Local Government Area, and N482.8 million for the completion and provision of solar-powered streetlights along the 5km dualised road network in Dawakin Tofa.
To boost agriculture and rural mobility, N568 million has been allocated for the procurement of 300 motorcycles for the KANRDA Extension Service Office and farm managers, while N17.3 million has been earmarked for Phase I of a mini-irrigation scheme across the state.
“The Executive Council has directed the Ministry of Environment to ensure the successful implementation of the state’s Climate Change Policy, aimed at achieving a low-carbon, climate-resilient environment to support sustainable development and a climate-proofed economy,” the statement added.
Additionally, the Project Monitoring Committee has been set up to ensure timely execution and quality delivery of projects.
“The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, with Commissioners for Information and Internal Affairs, Education, Works and Housing, Special Duties and State Chairman of Kano Property Investments as members,” the statement noted.
This approval marks a significant step in Kano State’s development agenda, focusing on education, infrastructure, energy, and climate resilience.
