The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced a continued ban on the use of firecrackers, knockouts, and other fireworks during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to a statement from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the ban aims to ensure the safety of residents and protect lives and property during the festive season.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, highlighted that the use of such items could trigger “unnecessary panic and anxiety” within the communities of the capital city.
Adeh also pointed out that these items pose significant risks, including fire hazards and other avoidable accidents in neighborhoods.
She warned that individuals caught using or selling fireworks would face arrest and prosecution.
Additionally, community leaders and residents have been urged to raise awareness about the potential dangers these items pose.
