Elon Musk’s estranged daughter, Vivian Wilson, has announced she plans to leave the United States in the wake of Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
The 20-year-old, who dropped her father’s surname in 2022, posted on Threads to express her frustrations and map out her future after Trump’s election victory.
Born Xavier Alexander Musk, Vivian publicly distanced herself from Musk over differences in views, particularly around trans issues, and filed a legal petition to change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson.
On Threads, Vivian shared her decision, stating, “I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me. I don’t see my future being in the United States.”
She elaborated that even if Trump’s anti-trans policies don’t come to fruition, the atmosphere created by those who supported him is something she cannot reconcile.
“Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon,” she posted, reflecting deep concern about the current social climate.
Vivian, who became estranged from her billionaire father Elon Musk due to differing beliefs, also criticized him for supporting Trump’s presidency.
In a strongly worded statement, she expressed relief at not sharing certain qualities with her family members, writing, “Watching the grown members of my ex-‘family’ in the media/twitter-sphere recently makes me glad that I didn’t develop my genetic pre-disposition of apparently not having a f*****g spine. That’s all.”
She clarified that while she is critical of Trump supporters, she isn’t discouraging others from feeling the same way, adding, “If any of y’all are trump supporters you can go ahead right now and get the f*** off my page.”
Vivian is one of seven children Musk shares with his former wife, Justine Wilson, from whom he separated in 2008. Born in 2004, Vivian also has a twin brother, Griffin.
The schism between Musk and Vivian became apparent when she filed legal documents to change her name, stating the decision stemmed from her desire to distance herself entirely from her father.
Musk, in turn, has publicly voiced disappointment with Vivian, accusing her of being a “communist” and claiming that he was “tricked” into letting her begin puberty blockers.
Meanwhile, Musk was recently seen attending Trump’s celebratory election event with his 4-year-old son, X, at Mar-a-Lago, further underscoring the family’s diverging paths.
