The Chief Executive Officer of Mavin Records, Don Jazzy, has disclosed why he didn’t sign Wizkid and Davido to his now-defunct record label, Mo’Hits.
He made this revelation during a podcast session with Fisayo Fosudo.
While explaining why he failed to sign Wizkid, he stated that he (Wizkid) had already been signed by the CEO of EME Records,Banky W, before he had the opportunity to approach him.
While he added that he didn’t sign Davido because he knew that Davido would succeed in the industry,
He acknowledged his sincere appreciation for artists such as Simi and Teni, but regrettably, he did not enter into a contractual agreement with them. Although he appreciated their talent, the timing or circumstances may have prevented him from establishing partnerships with these promising artists.
Furthermore, Don Jazzy disclosed his near signing of the renowned rapper Falz The Bahd Guy. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the agreement did not come to fruition. He conveyed his appreciation for Falz’s artistic achievements and the possibility of a collaborative endeavour that could have materialised if the agreement had been realised.
“I like Simi; I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I had the opportunity to sign Davido, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine. Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing. Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal,’ he said.
