An auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, has revealed that the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, developed a reaction and began vomiting after receiving a tetanus injection.
Testifying before Justice C.A. Shotobi at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday, Ogedengbe recounted the events of September 12, 2024, when she was called to treat the singer at his Lekki residence.
According to The PUNCH, she said she was contacted by Ayobami Sodiq, also known as Spending, to attend to Mohbad’s swollen hand injury. She administered a tetanus injection to his upper arm and prescribed paracetamol instead of diclofenac due to his history of ulcers.
Additionally, she gave him a diluted paracetamol injection and a slow dose of ceftriaxone to address a bacterial infection.
However, shortly after the injection, Mohbad started feeling unwell.
“As I administered the ceftriaxone, he became uncomfortable and went to the toilet to vomit,” Ogedengbe told the court.
She noted that upon returning to the room, the singer sat on the floor, and she observed goosebumps on his body.
“I pointed out the reaction to his wife, Omowunmi, but she said it was a normal response for him after injections,” she stated.
The nurse explained that when she questioned Omowunmi about Mohbad’s reaction, the singer’s wife took him to the bathroom and poured water on his head.
Realizing the severity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to a pharmacy to get medication for an allergic reaction. However, delays at the first pharmacy prolonged their return.
“By the time we got back with hydrocortisone injection and normal saline infusion, Mohbad was already outside the house, and arrangements were being made to take him to the hospital,” she testified.
Due to a lack of available vehicles and heavy traffic, the singer was transported on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
“When we got to the hospital, the medical team hesitated to treat him at first, leading to some confusion,” Ogedengbe added.
Mohbad’s body was later returned to his residence around 8 p.m., while Ogedengbe and others went to Orchid Lekki Police Station for a death certificate. Police inquiries then led them to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah.
Following her testimony, the case was adjourned to March 21, 2024, for further proceedings.
Meanwhile, in February 2025, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions announced that Ogedengbe and Ayobami Sodiq would face charges for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
However, a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, acquitted music artist Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, alongside music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.
