Celtic and Club Brugge battled to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League on Wednesday, with Daizen Maeda rescuing a point for the hosts after a costly own goal by Cameron Carter-Vickers handed the visitors the lead in the first half.
Carter-Vickers’ mishap came in the 26th minute, when his poorly judged back pass caught goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel out of position, resulting in the ball trickling into the bottom corner.
Brugge capitalized on the early gift and controlled much of the first half, using relentless pressing to disrupt Celtic’s rhythm.
Celtic, however, emerged more composed after halftime. Maeda’s moment of brilliance arrived in the 60th minute, curling a stunning shot from the right edge of the box to level the score.
Despite pushing for a late winner, Brendan Rodgers’ men had to settle for the draw, preserving their unbeaten home run across all competitions this season.
The result keeps Celtic in 20th place with eight points, just one ahead of 22nd-placed Brugge. Both sides remain in contention for the knockout playoff spots in the expansive 36-team competition.
