The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Jalingo village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in Damaturu on Monday, the incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on February 15.
Abdulkarim revealed that the suspects conspired to deceive the victim, leading her into a secluded area where they forcibly violated her.
“The Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended the suspects who conspired and raped the 12-year-old girl, inflicting serious injuries.
“The victim received immediate medical attention, while the suspects were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Damaturu for a discreet investigation,” Abdulkarim said.
In a separate operation, the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that three individuals were apprehended in Alimari Ward, Damaturu, for allegedly possessing parts of a dismantled motorcycle, which had recently been reported stolen from the Abbari area of the city.
He explained that the suspects had hidden the stolen motorcycle and other belongings inside an unfinished building within the neighborhood.
“Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the A Divisional Police Headquarters raided the location, arresting the suspects, who later admitted to the theft,” he noted.
Additionally, Abdulkarim reported that a teenager who had been kidnapped on February 12 was rescued in Dadawel through a joint effort by the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters and a local vigilante group.
During the rescue, a gunfight broke out between the security personnel and the kidnappers, forcing the criminals to abandon their captive and flee, leaving behind the victim and various items.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of a single-barrel firearm.
Commending the swift actions of the police, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and combating criminal activities across the state.
