United States President, Donald Trump, is set to sign an executive order on Wednesday banning transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports, continuing his series of policies targeting transgender individuals since his return to office.
The order fulfills a campaign promise Trump made before beginning his second term with a hardline right-wing agenda.
According to the White House’s daily briefing, the signing of the “No Men in Women’s Sports Executive Order” will take place at 3:00 pm (2000 GMT).
“Today, President Trump will deliver on his promise to PROTECT WOMEN’S SPORTS!” Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly announced on X.
Kelly emphasized that the executive order will “end the dangerous and unfair participation of men in women’s sports.”
Throughout his re-election campaign, Trump frequently focused on the issue of transgender athletes, targeting his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris for her stance on trans rights.
Since resuming office on January 20, the 78-year-old former president has signed multiple executive orders aimed at curtailing the rights of gender non-conforming individuals.
One such order seeks to remove what Trump described as “transgender ideology” from the military, effectively banning transgender personnel.
Another prohibits gender transition procedures for anyone under the age of 19.
The new executive order follows the passage of a Republican-backed bill in January, which placed strict limitations on transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports.
Republicans have consistently spotlighted transgender issues in their political messaging, particularly in youth and sports, framing them as part of a larger culture war against progressive values ahead of the 2024 election.
As the visibility of transgender individuals grows in the U.S., debates over fairness and gender norms in women’s sports have increasingly rallied conservative support.
