President Bola Tinubu is set to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Tinubu would depart Abuja for Tanzania’s capital on Sunday.
The summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, will bring together African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organizations to explore strategies for expanding energy access across the continent.
“The summit will provide a platform for sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources to address Africa’s energy challenges,” Onanuga said.
He added, “Discussions will focus on accelerating energy access in underserved regions, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilising private sector investment.”
The event will unfold over two days, beginning with ministerial-level discussions where participating countries, including Nigeria, will outline their national energy strategies, referred to as compacts, detailing plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.
On the second day, heads of state will adopt the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will define a shared roadmap for Africa’s progress toward the Mission 300 objectives.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement during the summit, reiterating Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy development.
Joining the President on this trip are Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power; and Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy.
