President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, postponed the Federal Executive Council meeting over the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.
This development was confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The FEC meeting, originally set for Wednesday, was postponed as a mark of respect for the Chief of Army Staff.
General Lagbaja had held the position since June 19, 2023, serving with dedication until his death on November 5, 2024.
In a further gesture of honour, Tinubu directed that flags be flown at half-staff across the nation for seven days in memory of the fallen military leader.
Earlier in the day, the President extended his deepest condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, recognizing Lt. General Lagbaja’s lasting impact on national security and stability.
In his tribute, President Tinubu wished the late General “eternal peace” and acknowledged his “significant contributions to the nation.”
