President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to The PUNCH, the Vice President disclosed this over the weekend while paying a condolence visit to the family of the late Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, Yohanna Kukah, in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The late monarch was a relative of Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
Shettima, accompanied by other dignitaries, emphasized the administration’s commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna. He highlighted the President’s decision as a testament to his dedication to addressing the region’s educational and infrastructural needs.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna. This decision reflects his concern for the people of this region,” Shettima stated during his visit to Ikulu Kingdom.
The Vice President also revealed that discussions are underway to set up a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, further demonstrating the government’s focus on improving healthcare access in the area.
Shettima praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for fostering inclusive governance and pledged federal support for the state’s development initiatives. “Government is about ensuring that every community feels connected and has a sense of belonging,” he said.
Highlighting President Tinubu’s attention to security in the region, Shettima cited the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as a strategic move to address Southern Kaduna’s security challenges.
Bishop Matthew Kukah, speaking on behalf of his family, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for the visit and reiterated the community’s infrastructural challenges.
“You can see the state of our roads—it took you nearly three and a half hours to get here,” Kukah remarked. “We are grateful for your visit and your continued friendship with the Ikulu people.”
