At least three teachers and six pupils sustained serious injuries when a school bus carrying students from Zenith Group of School, Akeyo, Muslim area, Ibadan, was involved in a lone accident along Akala Expressway on Friday morning.
According to the Tribune, the vehicle, which was en route to the Railway Station in Omi, Ibadan, for an excursion, reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing it to tumble and veer onto the opposite side of the road.
One of the pupils on board confirmed that the school proprietor was also in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
“There were more than 20 of us in the bus when it suddenly lost control. The next thing we knew, the vehicle tumbled, and people started screaming,” the pupil recounted.
Emergency responders, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, arrived promptly to assist the victims.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention, while the remaining pupils were taken to the Kuola Divisional Police Headquarters for safety.
An eyewitness at the scene described the moment of the crash: “I was driving behind the bus when I saw it swerving before it tumbled. It was a terrible sight, and people immediately rushed to help.”
