The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has disclosed that notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji is showing willingness to surrender following intensified military operations that have crippled his network.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Musa revealed that the military’s recent actions have severely weakened Turji’s position, forcing him to release hostages and consider laying down arms.
According to Musa, operations targeting Turji’s group led to the elimination of his deputy and several key lieutenants.
“We have taken out his second-in-command, and most of his lieutenants. This has put him under immense pressure,” he stated.
Highlighting the challenges of tracking Turji, Musa said the terrorist leader’s unpredictable movements often make it difficult to act on intelligence in real-time.
“These terrorists are within communities. Sometimes, when we get information about their location, they’ve already moved before we can act,” he explained.
However, the military’s sustained pressure appears to be yielding results. “Recently, he has started signaling that he is ready to surrender. He has even released most of the people under him,” Musa noted.
Despite Turji’s willingness to give up arms, the Defence Chief emphasized the importance of justice for victims.
“We must ensure that anyone responsible for violence and the deaths of innocent citizens is held accountable,” Musa added.
