Manchester United began a new life under Erik ten Hag with a 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in Tuesday’s Bangkok pre-season friendly.
The Red Devils were without Cristiano Ronaldo who misses the pre-season with family issues as he tries to force a move away from Old Trafford in search of Champions League football next season.
Jadon Sancho netted the opener and the first goal under the Ten Hag era before Fred and Anthony Martial got on the scoresheet as the Red Devils enter into the break with a three-goal lead.
United came into the second half with about 10 changes as Ten Hag introduces his younger team while Jurgen Klopp who started the first half with a much weaker team introduced the likes of Mohammed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and new signing Darwin Nunez, amongst other top stars.
However, it was United’s youngsters that stole the show when Eric Baily lead a beautiful counter from defence and linked up with Facundo Pellistri who found Amad Diallo before the young Ivorian teed up the Uruguayan to score the fourth goal of the game.
Although the Reds had more possession (53% -47%), total passes (504 – 570) and shots (18-9) than the Red Devils, Ten Hag’s men had more shots on target (5) than Klopp’s side(4).
United face Mel Victory next before games against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano.
