The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspected bandits allegedly attempting to acquire an AK-47 rifle.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, describing it as a significant step in curbing criminal activities in the state.
According to Haruna, the suspects were apprehended on March 6, 2025, around 2:00 p.m. at Chula Filling Station in Hotoro Quarters, Kano. A team of police detectives, led by SP Ahmad Abdullahi, the Officer-in-Charge of Jar Kuka Out-Post, carried out the operation based on credible intelligence.
“The suspects, identified as Shukurana Salihu, 25, Rabi’u Dahiru, 35, and Ya’u Idris, 30, all from Katsina State, alongside Muktar Sani, 30, from Yandodo Hotoro Quarters in Kano, were arrested while attempting to procure an AK-47 rifle,” Haruna stated.
During a search, police recovered an assortment of weapons and other items, including three locally-made revolver pistols, 12 rounds of live ammunition of different calibers, three cartridges, 24 bearing balls, four knives, a cutlass, and charms. Additionally, officers found N1,028,800 in cash.
Haruna emphasized that the arrests align with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to intensify efforts against criminal activities nationwide.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to preventing the spread of banditry in Kano State,” he added. “The suspects are currently undergoing investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged in court upon completion of inquiries.”
He further urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the fight against crime, assuring continued efforts to maintain law and order.
