Controversial Nigerian rapper, Darlington Achakpo, widely known as Speed Darlington, has been freed after spending two months in detention.
His lawyer announced his release on social media, expressing gratitude to everyone who supported the process.
Sharing the news on Instagram, the legal representative stated, “We are delighted to confirm that our client, Mr. Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from two months of what we consider illegal detention.”
The statement also hinted at plans to seek legal redress for the artist, alleging a violation of his fundamental rights.
“As his legal team, we will be pursuing all legal avenues to ensure justice for the unjust treatment and deprivation of his rights by the Nigerian Police Force,” the lawyer added.
Speed Darlington, who was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, reportedly faced accusations tied to a verbal altercation involving Afrofusion artist Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu.
The rapper has expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during his ordeal.
“Mr. Achakpo extends his heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported him and special thanks to legal professionals including Mr. Marshal Abubakar, Barr. Deji Adeyanju, Barr. Hamza Nuh, and Barr. David,” the lawyer’s statement concluded.
