A South African Court on Monday ruled that the decision to release former president Jacob Zuma on early medical parole was “unlawful”.
According to Reuters, the court also ruled that he should return to prison to finish his sentence for contempt of court.
Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison last year after refusing to testify at a government inquiry into widespread corruption during his nearly decade as president, which ended in 2018 when incumbent Cyril Ramaphosa took over.
Zuma was granted medical parole in September 2021 after serving only a portion of his sentence.
However, in December, the Supreme Court overturned the parole decision and ordered him to return to prison.
Zuma appealed the ruling, and the decision was handed down on Monday, after the Department of Corrections announced in October that his prison sentence had ended.
