The Governing Council of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has dismissed three staff members for serious misconduct, citing offenses such as result manipulation, sexual harassment, and abandoning official duties.
The decision was made during the university’s 171st regular meeting on March 12, 2025, and confirmed in an official statement issued by the institution’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismail Mohammed Yauri.
According to the statement, the disciplinary action reflects the university’s firm commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring a safe learning environment.
“This decision underscores the institution’s dedication to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and students,” Yauri said.
UDUS, a prominent institution in northern Nigeria, has long maintained a strict stance against unethical behavior within its academic community.
The latest dismissals, the university noted, serve as a strong warning to those who may consider violating its code of conduct.
Attempts to obtain further details, including the names of the affected staff and potential legal actions, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, reactions among students have been divided. While some have praised the university’s decisive action in tackling misconduct, others have called for greater transparency in handling such cases.
A student, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed concern about the lack of specific details. “While it’s good that the university is taking action, we also need to know how these cases are handled to ensure fairness for all parties involved,” the student said.
Another student, however, commended the university’s zero-tolerance approach. “This shows that UDUS is serious about protecting its academic integrity. I hope this will deter others from engaging in such unethical acts,” they said.
