A social media user @afolxbi, has cried out over an alleged extortion at a gunpoint by some police officers at the police station in Epe, Oke Oyinbo in Lagos State.
He alleged that the police officers who were fully armed collected N20,000 from him.
Taking to his X, formerly Twitter account, he wrote, “These bunch of thugs just collected 20k from me at gun point. @BenHundeyin just letting you know these guys are armed robbers in uniforms. And I got their names to help you.
“Your men are acting with impunity at the Oke Oyinbo station, Epe, Lagos state!.”
Speaking further, he listed the names of the officers to include, “Oyebanji Mutalib, Ojuiya Jimoh, the crook who kept threatening us, Jagun Qudus, Ogegba James, he raised his gun at us, Timothy Taiwo, Uherbomhen Augustine, and Thompson Oludare”
“And a couple more special constabularies who didn’t carry name badges,”
While expressing worries about the plot of the cops, with their pictures, @afolxbi tagged the Nigerian police force and Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin to intervene on the matter.
“This one stopped me this morning and saw loratadine in my car and asked if twas an abortion pill, I just laugh. Not knowing say I go see ma for Twitter
“They were literally extorting another guy for having a used freezer in his bus without receipt. Who the fuck moves around with receipt for a freezer that’s not even new. They were extorting him.”
The X user also alleged that the policemen extorted money from a man for having a used freezer in his bus.
However, when contacted, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relationship Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not pick the call as of the time of filling this report.
The incident has sparked reaction from social media users with some condemning in totality the actions of the police while others called for Investigation into the matter.
While commending the tweet for awareness,@royalty29 said, “There’s no way you won’t feel safe knowing that officers like this are fighting crime for you. Mans probably seen every dimension of crime. Thank you for your service, sir!”
Another user @Komolaf11233521 tweeted, “Some of their families are here blaming Tinubu and Buhari for the failure of Nigeria. See faces like Wombilikis.”
@C_clinton_, who noted that the matter must be investigated, said, “This must be followed up @afolxbi. Evidence plenty.”
@dev_olalekan: “@BenHundeyin oya act fast…..another scapegoat.”
@donaldikpe316: “You fit beat these two now.”
@tehmitayo posted, adding a picture of one of the officers “This one stopped me this morning and saw loratadine in my car and asked if twas an abortion pill, I just laugh. Not knowing say I go see ma for Twitter”
@ChukwunyeluOrji “Nigeria is a crime scene😭😭😭 just look at police station, tell me why this kinda places wont be breeding out criminals in uniform”
@ChequerSpell “Look at sapa etched on all their faces. They look absolutely miserable and hunger stricken. Please the FG should review the salaries of these men let’s see if it would curtail their excesses. I’m not excusing them though because they’re all poorly trained to begin with.”
@austin_tom67601 “Their faces actually look like criminals, these people shouldn’t be officers of the law, they shouldn’t be in any institution.”
