Atalanta missed an opportunity to be temporarily draw level with Serie A leaders Inter Milan after being held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Venezia on Saturday.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side dominated proceedings at home but struggled to convert their chances.
Davide Zappacosta and Juan Cuadrado both struck the woodwork from difficult angles in the first half, while league top scorer Mateo Retegui endured a frustrating evening.
The forward squandered two headed opportunities before the break and fired a golden chance over the bar in the 50th minute.
The result leaves Atalanta in third place with 55 points, trailing second-placed Napoli by one and leaders Inter by two. Inter and Napoli are set to clash later in the day at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Meanwhile, Venezia remain in 19th place with 18 points as they continue their battle for survival.
