Super Eagles defender, Gabriel Osho, netted his first goal of the season as AJ Auxerre secured a dramatic 2-2 draw against RC Lens at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps on Saturday.
The two-cap Nigerian international, who debuted for the Super Eagles against Benin in November, was instrumental in earning his team a crucial point with an impressive all-round performance.
Auxerre, eager to end a two-game winless run, faced an early challenge when Neil El Aynaoui put Lens ahead in the 22nd minute with a clinical finish.
But the hosts quickly responded, as Gaëtan Perrin equalized nine minutes later, sparking hope for a turnaround.
Despite their efforts, Auxerre were dealt another blow just before half-time, as Lens regained the lead, leaving the home side chasing the game in the second period.
Auxerre emerged from the break with determination, dominating possession and pushing hard for a second equalizer.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 73rd minute when Lassine Sinayoko’s precise pass found Gabriel Osho, who coolly slotted home to level the score at 2-2.
Osho’s goal was a significant milestone, marking his first in Ligue 1 since joining Auxerre from Luton Town in the summer transfer window.
The central defender had played 988 minutes across 12 matches before finding the net.
Defensively, Osho was just as impactful, making six clearances, blocking two shots, and completing four key interceptions to frustrate Lens’ attacking efforts.
His composure and leadership at the back were vital in helping Auxerre secure the draw.
This result offers Auxerre a foundation to build upon as they aim to climb the Ligue 1 standings, with Osho’s standout display highlighting his growing influence within the team.
