Former Super Eagles player, Sam Sodje, has expressed that dismissing Finidi George might be a necessary step, as Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is crucial.
Finidi’s tenure has started poorly, marked by the Super Eagles’ disappointing performance in their World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
The West Africans managed a 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana and suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Cheetahs.
Currently, they find themselves in fifth place in Group C, with only three points from four games.
This poor showing has led to increasing demands for Finidi’s dismissal.
“The NFF has to sort themselves out. If you sack him, what are you expecting to get? Well, yes. Coaches are being judged for results. He has not got his results right now,” Sodje told Brila FM.
“We aim to qualify for the World Cup. If we keep going the way we’re going, we won’t qualify. So, it’s not about Finidi George, it’s about what we want.
“So yes, sacking him might not be the worst idea, because we need to be in the World Cup.”
