Residents of the Nyifiye community in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have lamented the incessant attacks by gunmen in the community.
In a recent attack, yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the community in the early hours of Monday, shooting at residents and destroying properties in the process.
According to The PUNCH, the General Secretary of the Reformed Church of Christ for Nations, Taraba, Rev. Andemun Rimamnde, confirmed the incident.
He stated that the attack was not the first as another happened the previous week, which claimed 12 lives.
Rimamnde said, “These attacks are continuous. Six people, including the village head, were killed in Nzurya; five people were killed in Asik, while in Konkean, the property was destroyed. There was no casualty there because the gunmen were resisted by vigilantes.”
According to a letter sighted by our correspondent, the killings and attacks had been predominant in the Takum, Ussa, Yangto special development areas of the state.
The letter, dated July 13, was addressed to the state Governor, Darius Ishaku, and signed by the RCCN’s Assistant General Secretary, Ukwetari Urutsi.
The state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Kwache Gambo, stated that officers had been on patrol in the axis where the recent attacks took place and investigations were ongoing.
She said, “I enjoin the people living in that community and elsewhere to report any incident to the nearest police station. We will continue to do more to save lives and property.”
