Security forces have commenced a rescue operation for Lt. Cynthia Akor, an officer of the Nigerian Navy attached to the Defence Headquarters, and two other individuals who were abducted in the Federal Capital Territory.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that armed assailants kidnapped Akor alongside two others from their residence in the Mpape area of the FCT on Friday night.
A source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the kidnappers have reached out to the families of the victims, demanding a ransom of N100 million.
“About three people were kidnapped on Friday night in the Mpape area. A DHQ official, Akor, was among them. The kidnappers have already reached out to their families and are demanding N100m ransom,” the source disclosed.
Attempts to contact Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, and Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, for comments were unsuccessful, as they had yet to respond to messages at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, noted that she would verify the incident and provide updates.
“I will confirm and get back to you shortly,” she stated. However, no further update had been provided as of the time of filing this report.
A security source, however, confirmed that a coordinated rescue mission involving police officers and military troops is underway.
“The operation to rescue her and others has started and is ongoing. Police and soldiers are already on it,” the source stated.
