The Police Service Commission has announced the appointment of Miller Dantawaye as the Commissioner of Police for Kogi State Command and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin as the Commissioner of Police for Edo State Command.
In a statement released on Thursday, the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, explained that the appointments were necessitated by the impending retirements of the current commissioners.
“The Commissioners of Police for the two states are due for retirement. CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha of Kogi State will retire on January 22, 2025, while CP Peter Umoru of Edo State is set to retire on January 25, 2025,” Ani said.
CP Dantawaye, who assumes the role in Kogi, brings a wealth of experience from various operational and administrative roles, including Assistant Commissioner of Operations in the Federal Capital Territory, Area Commander in Adamawa State, and Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Yobe and Edo States. His most recent position was Commissioner of Police, Information Technology, at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
CP Otimenyin, the new Edo State Commissioner, has a distinguished career spanning several commands and divisions. She has served as Divisional Police Officer in Plateau and Edo States, Assistant Commissioner of Administration in Kebbi State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration in Zones 13 and 5, covering Anambra and Edo States, respectively. Before her current appointment, she was the Commissioner of Police Administration at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.
The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), urged the new commissioners to prioritize public safety and swiftly adapt to their new roles.
“Your appointment comes with significant responsibilities. We expect you to improve security in your respective states and demonstrate commitment to the service of our nation,” DIG Argungu stated.
He also assured the public that the commission would monitor the commissioners’ performance, adding, “The PSC remains committed to ensuring accountability and encouraging excellence in the police force.”
The appointments were formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police, with the implementation letter signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
