The head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis expressed solidarity on Saturday with Moroccans affected by an earthquake said to have killed over 800 people.
Pope Francis in a telegram signed Saturday, September 9, by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, sent his condolences to the people of the country, hours after the powerful earthquake that caused the death over 800 people and injured over 672 others, according to the latest provisional reports.
“The pope expresses his profound solidarity with those who are touched in the flesh and heart by this tragedy,”
A mark of support, in the aftermath of the terrible tragedy which bereaved the entire Moroccan kingdom.
“Having learned with pain of the earthquake that violently struck Morocco, His Holiness Pope Francis wishes to express his prayerful communion in the face of this natural disaster, “underlines the telegram,
Francis, “saddened by this event”, expresses “his deep solidarity with those who are touched in their flesh and their hearts by this tragedy, he prays for the rest of the deceased, the healing of the wounded and the consolation of those who mourn the loss of their loved ones and their homes”.
The successor of Saint Peter “prays the Most High to support Moroccans in this ordeal and offers his encouragement to the civil authorities and the emergency services, further specifies the message. He willingly invokes divine blessings on all as a token of comfort.”
According to reports, while the emergency services remained engaged, this Saturday, September 9 at the start of the afternoon, in a race against time to save survivors from the rubble, the human and material toll of the tragedy is likely to increase significantly in the coming days.
