A group of unidentified gunmen launched an attack on the home of Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area in Katsina State, Maharazu Dayi, on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a police officer.
The assailants opened fire on Police Corporal Shamsudeen Lawal, who was later rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Confirming the attack, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, stated that security operatives responded swiftly, but the officer could not be saved.
“Yes, the incident happened yesterday, but our men were mobilized to the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” Sadiq said.
He further revealed that three suspects had been apprehended in connection with the attack, adding, “Further development will be communicated to you as an investigation is ongoing.”
Although it remains unclear whether any other individuals sustained injuries, sources indicated that security personnel successfully prevented the attackers from gaining entry into the chairman’s residence.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the chairman and his family were inside the house during the attack.
