The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the burial location of Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University, following the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo.
The PUNCH reported that Ajisomo, who was previously rumoured to have fled to the Benin Republic, was taken into custody and has been assisting detectives in identifying where Ogunbode was buried.
The State Police Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, verified these developments in response to inquiries on Tuesday.
Ogunbode, who studied Political Science Education at LASU, was declared missing on January 16, 2025, amid unconfirmed reports that his mutilated remains had been found.
Last Friday, police announced the arrest of three individuals linked to the murder, while the search for five more suspects remained ongoing.
Among those apprehended was Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor accused of receiving N70,000 from the victim’s account. Another suspect, Sheriff Adebayo, a church member, allegedly received N300,000.
Additionally, Omolara Ajisomo, mother of the prime suspect, was taken into custody. She is accused of aiding her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, in fleeing after they each reportedly obtained N300,000 from Ogunbode’s account.
In response to mounting pressure from the students’ union, which threatened a statewide protest, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, assigned the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Providing details on the arrest, Hundeyin stated that the suspect was captured in the Alakuko area of Lagos on Monday morning.
“The principal suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo, was arrested yesterday (Monday) morning at the Alakuko area. He was the one who cleared the victim’s bank account through the victim’s mobile phone,” he said.
Dispelling online rumors, Hundeyin clarified that the burial site was not within the premises of the church linked to the arrested pastor.
He further revealed that the church had been sealed off after police received intelligence about a potential arson attempt by individuals seeking revenge.
“The shallow grave is not around the church premises, but it is there in the community. The church was sealed following intelligence reports that some people planned to burn it out of vengeance, and we do not want that to happen,” he added.
Meanwhile, a source close to the investigation disclosed that detectives were heading to the location to exhume Ogunbode’s remains.
“I just received information that the newly arrested suspect has confessed to killing the LASU graduate, and the police are on their way to the burial site,” the source revealed.
When asked for confirmation, Hundeyin responded with a single word: “Confirmed.”
