The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the abduction of a petrol attendant by gunmen in Iseyin.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, required urgent attention.
“Investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided accordingly,” Osifeso told journalists in Ibadan.
The attack took place at a petrol station near a sawmill along the Iseyin-Saki Road. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants initially targeted the station owner, who was not present at the time, and instead took the attendant.
A source familiar with the situation revealed that in the course of the attack, the gunmen also killed a man identified as Ayanladun, who had come to charge his phone at the petrol station before attending a church service nearby.
“The deceased had plugged his phone at the petrol station when the kidnappers arrived and was shot dead in the process,” the source said.
Additionally, a security guard at the station sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Iseyin.
The police assured the public that efforts were underway to apprehend the culprits and ensure justice is served.
