Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspected tricycle robbers in Minna after allegedly robbing a passenger of his mobile phone.
The suspects, arrested by officers from the Kpakungu Police Division on October 31, 2024, are currently awaiting further investigation.
Spokesperson for the State Police department, SP Wasiu Abiodun, explained that the arrests followed a report filed by a victim who had been robbed of his phone while traveling in a tricycle.
“On receipt of the report, the police operatives of the division, with credible intelligence, arrested two suspects in connection with the crime,” he confirmed.
The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Azifi Lawal, also known as Maka, and Abubakar Saidu, also known as Yaro, both reside in the Soje B and Gbeganu areas of Minna.
Abiodun pointed out that the victim had boarded the tricycle at the Gidan-Kwano area, intending to travel to Dama. Along the way, two passengers who were already in the vehicle conspired to rob him. As they neared Dama, they overpowered the victim, stole his phone, and fled into nearby bushland.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the robbery and implicated a third member of their gang, identified as Mubarak, who resides in the Dutsen-Kura area of Minna.
“They mentioned one Mubarak of Dutsen-Kura area as part of their gang members. Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing to recover the stolen phones and arrest the fleeing suspect,” added Abiodun, noting that efforts are underway to locate the remaining gang member and retrieve any stolen items.
