The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that bandits displaced from Zamfara State have relocated to Kwara.
In a statement released on Monday, the State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, denied the claims circulating on social media.
According to the statement, there is no intelligence indicating any movement of bandits from Zamfara to any location within Kwara State.
The social media report, which surfaced on Sunday, alleged that fleeing bandits had settled in Banni, a town in the Kaiama Local Government Area.
However, the police command has refuted this, asserting that no operational report supports such claims.
“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Banni town in Kwara State,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
“The command categorically debunks this claim as false and misleading, a fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents. There is no intelligence or operational report to support the presence of armed bandits in Banni.”
The police assured residents that security agencies had intensified surveillance efforts across the state to prevent any potential threats.
Reaffirming the safety of the state, Commissioner Olaiya assured the public of the police force’s readiness to address any security concerns.
He also urged residents to dismiss unverified reports and avoid spreading misinformation.
