The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man, Abubakar Ibrahim, for allegedly defrauding his friend of one million nine hundred and forty-two thousand naira, N1,942,000, promising to exchange the amount for United States Dollars.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Lawan Shittu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement.
Adam said, “on 20/5/2024 at about 0800hrs, one Ibrahim Musa 20yrs of Shagari Quarters reported at Hadejia ‘A’ Division that, about one month ago, one Abubakar Umar, age 25yrs of Gandun Sarki quarters, defrauded him the sum of one million nine hundred and forty-two thousand naira (N1,942,000.00k) with the agreement that, he will give him United States Dollars (USD) as equivalent.”
“Upon receiving the report, detectives from Hadejia ‘A’ Division acted promptly, arresting the suspect and transferring him to SCID Dutse for thorough investigation.
During the interrogation at SCID Dutse, DSP Shiisu stated, “on interrogation at SCID Dutse, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.”
“Ibrahim further implicated two accomplices, Yahuza Mukthar of Kurna quarters, Dala LGA, Kano State, and Suleiman Yahaya, who were also arrested.
“During a search, authorities recovered thirty-two (32) pieces of counterfeit 100 USD bills, a counterfeit one thousand naira note, and various clothing items from their possession.”
“All the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence allegedly against them and they will be taken to court,” DSP Shiisu added.
