The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect from Sharifai Quarters in connection with the alleged killing of a vigilante member and an attack on another during an incident at the Emir’s Palace.
Confirming the arrest on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, stated that the tragic event unfolded during the Eid prayers of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II at approximately 12:40 p.m.
“The suspect, along with others still at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later succumbed to his injuries,” Kiyawa revealed.
He added that another vigilante, Aminu Suleman of Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.
As part of its investigation, the police have invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding the incident.
Reiterating its stance on security measures, the Command emphasized its ban on all Durbar celebrations and warned that violators would face strict consequences.
“The police will not tolerate any activities that disrupt public order. Anyone found engaging in thuggery (Daba) or other criminal acts will be arrested and prosecuted,” Kiyawa stressed.
The Command called on residents to maintain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure peace and safety in the state.
