The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the brutal murder of 35-year-old POS operator, Abbas Yuguda, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.
The tragic incident took place on March 22, 2025, as Yuguda was on his way home after closing his shop for the day.
Armed assailants ambushed him, delivering fatal head injuries before leaving him in critical condition.
Confirming the attack, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, stated on Monday, “Upon receiving the distress call, operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters swiftly arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.”
Following the murder, enraged youths in the community tracked down one of the alleged attackers, identified as Umar SNU, and subjected him to mob justice before police officers arrived in time to rescue him.
Nguroje further disclosed, “The suspect was rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is now aiding the ongoing investigation.”
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris, denounced the killing and assured residents that all those responsible would be brought to justice.
He also cautioned against jungle justice, urging community members to report crimes to the authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.
The Adamawa State Police Command has called on residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement to help curb further violence in the area.
