The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Odukaye Kunle for allegedly assaulting his son, Boluwatife, in Otta, Ogun State.
His arrest follows the circulation of a viral video that captured him kicking the young boy, sparking public outrage and calls for justice.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said Kunle was taken into custody after an intense manhunt. He is set to be arraigned in court on Monday.
“The mother of the boy and the boy will be taken to our police medical centre in Otta for further medical assessment and attention,” Adejobi stated. He also revealed that the Officer-in-Charge of Medical Services in Ogun State had been directed to oversee the child’s care.
Commending the swift action taken by law enforcement, Adejobi said, “We commend the CP Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their commitment to ensuring that the boy gets justice. We appreciate you all for your concerns as well.”
Kunle’s arrest was prompted by a video shared on social media by a Facebook user, Adelere Rasaki, on Thursday. The distressing footage showed the suspect attacking his son, leading to widespread condemnation and a call for immediate intervention.
The police have assured the public that justice will be served, emphasizing their dedication to protecting vulnerable individuals from abuse.
