Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has congratulated Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her recent victory at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Tems secured the award for Best African Music Performance with her song Love Me Jeje, making it her second Grammy win.
In a social media post on Monday, Obi expressed his excitement over the continued global recognition of Nigerian artists and the country’s growing influence in the entertainment industry.
“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the efforts of other Nigerian artists who were nominated in different Grammy categories, describing Nigeria as a nation with an “endless flow of talents” making significant global strides.
The Best African Music Performance category was highly competitive, featuring a lineup of Nigerian artists, including Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Asake (MMS), Chris Brown’s Sensational featuring Davido and Lojay, and Burna Boy’s Higher. Their nominations further highlighted Nigeria’s strong presence on the international music stage.
Obi reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment, stating, “I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The 67th Grammy Awards took place on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, celebrating outstanding achievements in the global music industry.
