Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has urged foreign diplomats to encourage investors from their respective countries to explore opportunities in the state’s thriving agricultural sector.
During a meeting with ambassadors in Abuja on Tuesday, Adeleke assured the diplomats that significant strides had been made to address Osun’s infrastructure challenges, positioning the state as a favorable destination for business.
The meeting was part of preparations for the forthcoming International Agricultural Exhibition and Agri-Business Conference, scheduled to hold in Osogbo in April.
In attendance were ambassadors from various countries, including Tunisia, Cuba, India, DR Congo, Kenya, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Portugal, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, and Zimbabwe.
Representing Governor Adeleke at the meeting, Senator Lere Oyewunmi (Osun West) reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment for prospective investors, promising a worthwhile investment experience.
“Today, I am inviting your businessmen and women to come and invest in Osun State and Nigeria at large. I can assure them of a bountiful return on their investments,” Adeleke declared.
The governor emphasized Osun’s strategic position as an agricultural hub in southwestern Nigeria, highlighting its positive investment climate and supportive state policies that encourage agro-industrialization.
He also pointed out the state’s improved ease-of-doing-business ratings and functioning free trade zones.
“Osun is an agricultural hub of South Western Nigeria. Our ease of doing business rating is high. Our investment climate is positive, and our state policies promote agro-industrialisation, among others. Our state has functioning free trade zones, and we have tackled our infra deficits to a great extent. Osun is open for business.
“Agritech Nigeria Osun 2025 is an international meeting place for manufacturers, researchers, investors, academia, purchasers, and decision-makers, representing both local and international interests. Our government is ready to provide incentives and support to ensure your investment thrives in my state,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, represented by Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi, Director of Economy, Trade, and Investment at the ministry, reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to fostering international collaboration in the agriculture sector.
“This meeting underscores the importance of leveraging diplomacy to attract investment, technology, and expertise that will enhance food security, promote agri-businesses, and drive sustainable economic development,” Akinremi said.
He called on diplomatic partners to seize the opportunities in Osun’s agri-business space and collaborate in areas such as technology exchange, capacity building, and market expansion.
