Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, proved his worth once again, delivering the match-winning goal in Galatasaray’s hard-fought 2-1 comeback victory over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
The crucial win snapped Galatasaray’s frustrating streak of four straight draws in all competitions and strengthened their position at the top of the league, stretching their lead to seven points. However, second-placed Fenerbahce still have a game in hand.
Galatasaray endured an early setback when Alanyaspor took the lead in the 23rd minute, courtesy of a strike from Tonny Vilhena.
The visitors found their response early in the second half, leveling the score in the 51st minute when Fidan Aliti inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Just 11 minutes later, Osimhen stepped up, towering above the defense to nod in a well-placed cross from Baris Alper Yilmaz, sealing the comeback.
The Nigerian forward remained a constant threat, forcing a sharp save in the 67th minute and narrowly missing the target in the 85th.
He was eventually substituted in the 90th minute after a standout performance.
Osimhen’s impact was evident in the numbers. Playing 89 minutes, he recorded three shots, with two on target, while completing 80% of his 20 passes.
The former Wolfsburg striker also completed two successful dribbles and won every aerial duel he contested. However, he missed two big chances that could have added to his tally.
His latest goal brings his season total to 17, putting him just one goal shy of the league’s top scorer, Krzysztof Piatek, and ahead of fellow African strikers Simon Banza and Youssef En-Nesyri.
Beyond just goals, Osimhen remains a key figure in Galatasaray’s title push. He now leads the league in goal contributions with 21, comprising 17 goals and four assists, keeping him firmly in the race for what could be the second league Golden Boot of his career.
