Following a series of violent cult clashes and security unrest in Owo, Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has declared a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the town.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, is aimed at curbing the violence that has claimed several lives and restoring peace in the area.
In a statement released on Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, residents were instructed to remain indoors during the curfew hours.
Exemptions have been made for essential services, including hospitals, emergency responders, and law enforcement agencies.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also directed security agencies in the state to strictly enforce the curfew, safeguard lives and properties, and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
“The safety and well-being of Owo residents is our utmost priority. Security agencies have been mandated to restore peace and ensure the perpetrators of these heinous acts are brought to justice,” the statement read.
The government urged residents to cooperate with authorities and assured them that necessary steps were being taken to address the situation.
